Choosing a Ski Helmet

The way to find your helmet size is to measure the circumference of your head just above your eyebrows. When putting the helmet on to your head align the front of the helmet with your eyebrows and pull down on both straps until it is comfortable.

There should be no gaps between the lining of the helmet and your head, and the back of the helmet should not touch the back of your neck.

Helmets

Helmets help reduce the incidence of minor head injuries from glancing blows and swinging T-bars but there is no evidence that any helmet can prevent death when the wearer hits an object at 25mph or more (the average speed of most intermediate skiers). So don't think your helmet makes you invincible- it doesn't. When buying a helmet make sure it meets either Central European (CE) standard EN1077 or one of the American standards - ASTM 2040 or Snell RS98.

More and more people are wearing Ski Helmets

According to www.skihelmets.com, 44% of skiers currently wear a helmet and 42% are intending to wear one the next time they visit the slopes. One reason for this growth is that out of 84,200 winter sports injuries recorded last season, 17,500 were head related. It is believed that out of those 17,500, 7,700 injuries and 11 deaths could have been avoided if they had been wearing a helmet. Another reason is that new technology has given helmets better ventilation, made them more comfortable and lighter, thus they are viewed as less of a hindrance.

All Alpina Ski Helmets comply with the latest European CE EN 1077 standard

The toughest testing requirements for ski helmets are currently imposed by CE tests, including impact damping capabilities, effectiveness of the strap system as well as range of vision.

IN-MOLD Technology

IN-MOLD technology enables complete bonding of the shell and rigid foam by means of a compression molding process. This results in an extremely stable, yet light-weight helmet offering significantly higher protection against mechanical impact (e.g. crashes involving sharp or pointed objects) compared to (usually spot-bonded only) adhesion-bonded helmets.

RUN SYSTEM

The approved helmet adapting system by ALPINA: A convenient rotary knob allows quick and optimum ski helmet adjustment, even at each head size. The RUNSYSTEM surrounds the back of the head in a particularly comfortable way and guarantees an absolutely superb fit.

ERGOMATIC

Without exception, all Alpina helmets are outfitted with the newly developed ERGOMATIC strap lock.  The locfk can be operated with one hand and has an ergonomic shape.  The twist-proof, multistage automatic catch will not open in case of a fall

Removable Ear Pads

The ear pads of some ALPINA ski helmets can be unbuttoned. This is particularly practical for skiing in sunny weather or in Spring. With head protection still guaranteed, skiing without the ear pads makes for a completely new, free feeling. Just as easily as they come off, the pads can be attached again.

Changeable Interior

Physical activity produces sweat.  That is why Alpina has developed an interior lining which can be removed from the helmet easily and quickly.  Wash the lining in warm soapy water, let it dry and insert it again in the helmet.
